Art on the Lawn at Poplar Forest and Juried Plein Air Competition: April 28, 2012 

Currently gathering submissions for an artists’ retreat and juried plein air competition at Thomas Jefferson’s retreat home, Poplar Forest.   We invite artists to be inspired by this special place where Jefferson came to seek solitude and tranquility and to interpret it with their unique talents and painting techniques. Our day of painting on Saturday, April 28 (May 6 rain date for all events) will culminate in an artists’ reception that evening when artists will share their work while enjoying a glass of wine. Twenty four paintings will be chosen by our juror to be shown at 2 venues- at the Poplar Forest Collector’s Preview Reception and at the First Friday’s June 1 opening at the Academy of Fine Arts in downtown Lynchburg. We are inviting artists from across Virginia to participate. The proceeds from the artists’ retreat and show will benefit Poplar Forest’s education programs and the Academy of Fine Arts.  We ask artists to donate 50% to 100% of the purchase price of their work.  Please check out this link http://www.poplarforest.org/node/861 to get more information and download the prospectus.
