The Washingtonian Center, opened in 1998, combines with the Waterfront and Rio Entertainment Center to create a 530,000 sq ft environment of retail stores and restaurants and over 200,000 sq ft of entertainment uses. Residential communities such as The Crossing developed nearby have attracted high-end clientele. During summer, free concerts are held at the Waterfront of the Washingtonian Center. The median household income for residents of Montgomery County is $106,000 as of the 2007 census. Great demographics and a wonderful venue combine to create the foundation for a great art festival.

The average sale reported by artists in 2011 for the inaugural year was $1544. For 2012 the show will move onto the street and advertising will continue to be fine-tuned to continue growth of the show.

Collaboration with Wine Entrepreneur for NEW Moblie Game Illustrations

We received a request from a wine educator and entrepreneur who has designed a mobile game. They are looking for artists to create visual interpretations of wine reviews. The artists will retain all copyrights to their works, and the game will include a link to the artists' Web sites. The game is being developed  to the point where they can apply to Kickstarter to get financing to take the game to market.

Once the game is launched, it is the intent to pay each artist whose work is selected to be used in the game.

Please e-mail at Heidi@ToYourTaste.com if interested. More information is available, but only after a non-disclosure agreement is signed.

Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation
Supporting artists, writers + composers from the greater Washington, DC Area
The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation has awarded VCCA a $10,000 grant to support residencies for artists, writers and composers from the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. The grant will be used to offer five fully-funded residencies for artists who have not previously had a residency at this world-class artists’ retreat.
These two- to eight-week residencies in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains include all meals, private rooms and private studios so that recipients have time and space to focus entirely on their creative work. Dinner is in the stimulating company of approximately 24 other artists, writers and composers from across the nation and around the world. Deadline to apply is May 15, 2012.

To Apply for a VCCA Residency

Next Deadline: May 15

Admission to VCCA is highly selective, based on a review of applications by panels of professional artists. There are separate panels for each category (poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, playwrights, performance, film and video artists, painters, sculptors, photographers, installation artists, composers and cross-disciplinary artists) with over fifty panelists serving at any one time. These panelists undergo periodic review to ensure that selection to VCCA is being made by the highest caliber artists in each discipline. Panelists are also rotated regularly to ensure that particular styles or tastes are not continuously represented. The basis for admission by an application is professional achievement or promise of achievement.
HOW TO APPLY
To apply, artists submit an application form, resume and samples of their work. You can download an application here:

If you are applying for the Goldfarb Fellowship or the Fellowship for Social Media Artists - please note it on your application. If you would like more information about the current special programs, click here.PLEASE NOTE:
